Featured Artist: DEY VEGA

It was a bit confusing on having to decide which talent we were to focus on this feature on Dey Vega for this 109 AB-MMA student is quite versatile with fashion, film making, photography and dance. But we asked him which would be his top priority; he said it would be film making and photography in which he is still willing to learn and explore further.

Short Action Film by Dey Vega: Seven Minutes

“Fashion is part of my artistic expression of who am I, and what I love to do.”, says Dey when we asked him what fashion is to him. “It doesn’t mean that you are feminine when you like fashion.”

Style Tips:

1.Don’t  be afraid to mix up your clothes. If you have a jacket, find something that suits it well. If you have a polo, find pants that compliments too.

2.You don’t have to put extra layers of clothing on your to look good.

3.It is up to you on how you present yourself; if you can carry yourself well, I think people will appreciate you even if you only wear something simple.

What is COMEONE GROUND?

It’s name was formerly, “Aftaskoo” which was established back in 2008 and a year later it became “Comeone Ground” which was composed of 12 people who wanted to dance and inspire. Now with almost 70++ members, Comeone Ground is a group that caters to CSB & DLSU students and gives them an outlet to dance, to express and to share their talents in dancing. Dey says they are open for new members and they might have auditions next month, so watch out!

Being part of this talented dance team, Dey admits that we wouldn’t want to see him dance at all back when he was in highschool. He says he wasn’t a dancer, he just had the chance to develop it when he joined C1G during his sophomore year in college. “No one starts out great.”, that’s what his friend told him that inspired him to develop his talent.

You guys might really recognize this photo which currently hit around 800++ shares and over 1000++ likes all over Facebook a few weeks ago.  Dey was quite fascinated with the current trend “its more fun in the Philippines” that he decided to make use of his favorite photograph he took of our very own SDA Building. At the beginning of it, he never even bothered to include a watermark copyright on his photograph because he thought only his friends would appreciate it but never in his wildest thinking expected such overwhelming hype to happen.

Believe it or not but Dey entered CSB without even having a single knowledge about anything related to Multimedia Arts; he didn’t know how to draw or use Photoshop and didn’t even know anything about photography. Initially, like most aspiring artists; he just wanted his own DSLR, and that eventually gave him the willingness to learn and become a good photographer. If you have the determination and passion to discover what you can do, then it is not impossible to attain what you can. Dey Vega shows us very well how perseverance leads to development when you have the passion to build up what you love doing.

View this dance choreography by Dey Vega featuring dancers from C1G; Vincent Igno, Yuki Ito, Twinkle Norte, Camille Bagasan, Donnie Dino and Jamico Jasa.

filmed by: AB-FILM Students; Ryan Dolores & Allan Nino

Its quite remarkable how he controls his time given his busy schedule with school, projects and dance practice late at night. Dey says, “Time is important when you have many things to do.”, other passions are things that shouldn’t be a distraction to your education but it should also push you further to do well in other aspects.

FASHION TIME CAPSULE

Here are some of the countless gorgeous illustrations. This was their Final Project for their Fashion Sketching Class under Jean Dee, also a FDM-graduate from DLS-CSB.

MUST LISTEN: Finding Atlantis by MAD HATTER DAY

It’s quite astonishing how this recently formed band can rock it out like pro-rockstars. Give it up for these 110 AB-Music Production Students; Paco Santos, Andrew Son, Pat Poblador, Cash Fuerte, Aki Suda & for vocalist, Mewa Cawad who in fact comes all the way from DLSU.

Only released in less than 24 hours ago, this video is already making noise on Facebook News Feeds; it  already received 110 likes as of now and 1592 views on Vimeo. Hands down Mad Hatter Day and for Quinatrow Productions  for this hardcore music video!

“It’s impossible to find something that doesn’t exist in the first place.”

Chorus:
Adrift at sea, aimless and directionless
We’re fighting the current and braving the turbulence
The waves run riot as we seek Atlantis
They’re crashing down on us

I.
The tides are rising with the tension
As we aimlessly float in confusion
This ship is sailing but we can’t agree on one direction
So tell me, where do we go from here?

Bridge:
SOS!
You’re holding on to me as if you’re holding on to your dear life
SOS!
You’re fighting in vain and consumed by denial
With a faint spark of hope, you ignite a signal fire
But we can’t be rescued from this pretense now

Title: Just Vowels Artist: Jensen Gomez 239 plays

JUST VOWELS by Jensen Gomez

A question to you… I’m scared for your answer
Nothing is fixed, not even this paragraph
I sail the city sadness again for a billionth time
Revisiting, might be staying… here

I scale the streets of my new old home
Your goodbye still lingers… May I answer back I love you so?
Angel may I answer your goodbye with I love you?
I’ll never stop saying this… Elle I promise

Another dream… that would leave me hurting
Your face again for the second straight night
Tongue tied words are mumbled
So here’s another sad song for you

Hills of my city just got lower… few inches
As you bit your lips inside my empty head
“It’s not just black and white” someone said
But with you it just seemed it is

This moment I will lose all my words
Vowels after vowels… let go to forgotten
I’m fading… I’m shaking with fear…I’m all alone in the dark
My sunset is coming… I’ll save my last breath for this song… for you

This film shows the deeper side of a being’s emotion towards lost and acceptance combined with remarkable cinematography. Enjoy a piece of Luis’ creativity.

Featured Photographer: RUPERT TANDOC

Course: AB- PHOTO

Rupert Tandoc is a person with a realistic sense of style as is his passion for photography. Currently a student of AB-PHOTO, the former Multi-Media Arts student is as direct and outspoken as he is. The former SPO member started his professional career when he was just 18 years old. We wouldn’t be surprised why Manila Bulletin wanted his skills shown on their paper. One of his first tasks from Manila Bulletin were to take images for UPCAT in UP and Pinoy Dream academy.

The professional photographer has traveled to numerous destinations because of photography, he shares. He believes that photography is capturing that golden moment or exact pose, angle, time and lighting. He is not only as artistic and skillful as his photos say but the 22-year is also very well knowledgeable when it comes to marketing and practicality in the industry.

Why We Think He’s Awesome: Most photographers nowadays depend the result of their photos on Photoshop but as much a possible, Rupert doesn’t depend the outcome of his Photographs on photo-editing programs; he believes in the skill and talent on photography alone. His works are manifestations of his principle and he is very comprehensive when he plans lighting on his shoots. For him, the sun is the most beautiful source of light and therefore it shouldn’t be overlooked.

Fashion Feature: JENICA MENDOZA

Untitled03

When you’d see her walking down the hallways of SDA, you’d think she’s from Fashion Design, but she’s actually from MMA! With that killer sense of style, Jenica Mendoza has every right to be an icon for fashion. There’s always something about what she’s wearing and how she carries herself that can make heads turn and stare.

Untitled02

Her casual style is characterized by the classy and subtle neutral shades combined often with printed tees and loads of analogous accessories. The messy hairstyle, combined with her signature dark eyeliner also reflects her style-consciousness. She always carries her cryptic and relaxed look perked up with tights, cropped pants and signature killer heels.

Untitled

Why we think she’s awesome:She’s in MMA, enough said but she has the taste of a downtown New yorker where the rebels and aspiring artists dwell. Her personality shows in her art works and she is her own person and could care less about what other people think. She also experiments in creating music good for ringtones and special effects. She also has a very pleasing personality, how could you hate this girl who’s so realistic and down to earth?

acs

A mixture of neutrals and different textures shows just how well she can mix very different things and make it work. Her eccentric tastes cannot be quenched at one place only, she gets her rare finds on online stores and thrift stores as well.

Title: Kansas Is Within Walking Distance Artist: Lions & Acrobats 41 plays

Music Feature: LIONS & ACROBATS

L-R: Oteph Tumambing, Mikee Silangcruz, Icoy Rapadas, Jim Lopez, Pedro Tumibay  (Photo By: Matt Santos-Viola)

It was a few hours past noon when we arrived on the 5th Floor SDA Theatre, where we started to hear the sound of impressive guitar riffs, pulsating drum beats, emotive bass echoes and astonishing vocals which seems to give off this euphoric feeling to anyone who hears the sound of their music. It was no doubt that it was Lions & Acrobats in performance, who continue to transport their audience to an atmospheric state where nothing else seem to exist and matter except for you and the music.

Band Members: Lorenzo “Icoy” Rapadas AB-MP (Vocals), Oteph Tumambing Oteph AB-MP (Bass), Mikee Silangcruz AB-PHOTO (Guitar), Jim Lopez  AB-MP(Guitar), Pedro Tumibay AB-MP(Drums) & Ling Lava AB-MP(Guitar)

Genre: Indie/Alternative/Post-Rock

Who Knew that Moulin Rouge could possibly inspire the band name of a modern-day rock band. Vocalist, Icoy Rapadas, tells us that he got fascinated with the whole idea of a carnival and thus, “Lions & Acrobats” came to be. It was in the year 2009 when the band met each other during the Frosh Orientation. Icoy, Pedro, Jim & Oteph were originally block-mates but it was a question how Mikee, who happens to be AB-Photography, became one of their guitarists. According to the band, they just randomly saw him during the FOP and “was very pa-cute”. However, it was only very recent when the band decided to add a new Lion, Ling Lava to the group. Now there are three guitarists in the band, they just got bigger and better!

IMG_9623

Lions & Acrobats live in Bacolod, March 26, 2011. We find it a success considering that it was their first gig outside Manila, yet they had instant fans asking for autographs and photos with them. Their Extended Playlist was sold out after the crowd heard their music. Im saying this with no exaggeration that the audience was instantly amazed at their music that they kept wanting for more. Its really Benildean Pride all the way down to Visayas.

It was not so long ago when I met Lions & Acrobats in our Oralcom Class during the third term of our first year. For a group of guys who can be so hyper-actively hilarious and “makulit”, I would have least expected them to have a band that can be this gifted and astonishing. I honestly couldn’t believe them when they told me that they had a band. I was proven wrong; the first time I saw them perform just left me speechless and even until now, they still continue to impress me.
