Featured Artist: DEY VEGA

It was a bit confusing on having to decide which talent we were to focus on this feature on Dey Vega for this 109 AB-MMA student is quite versatile with fashion, film making, photography and dance. But we asked him which would be his top priority; he said it would be film making and photography in which he is still willing to learn and explore further.

Short Action Film by Dey Vega: Seven Minutes

“Fashion is part of my artistic expression of who am I, and what I love to do.”, says Dey when we asked him what fashion is to him. “It doesn’t mean that you are feminine when you like fashion.”

Style Tips:

1.Don’t  be afraid to mix up your clothes. If you have a jacket, find something that suits it well. If you have a polo, find pants that compliments too.

2.You don’t have to put extra layers of clothing on your to look good.

3.It is up to you on how you present yourself; if you can carry yourself well, I think people will appreciate you even if you only wear something simple.

What is COMEONE GROUND?

It’s name was formerly, “Aftaskoo” which was established back in 2008 and a year later it became “Comeone Ground” which was composed of 12 people who wanted to dance and inspire. Now with almost 70++ members, Comeone Ground is a group that caters to CSB & DLSU students and gives them an outlet to dance, to express and to share their talents in dancing. Dey says they are open for new members and they might have auditions next month, so watch out!

Being part of this talented dance team, Dey admits that we wouldn’t want to see him dance at all back when he was in highschool. He says he wasn’t a dancer, he just had the chance to develop it when he joined C1G during his sophomore year in college. “No one starts out great.”, that’s what his friend told him that inspired him to develop his talent.

You guys might really recognize this photo which currently hit around 800++ shares and over 1000++ likes all over Facebook a few weeks ago.  Dey was quite fascinated with the current trend “its more fun in the Philippines” that he decided to make use of his favorite photograph he took of our very own SDA Building. At the beginning of it, he never even bothered to include a watermark copyright on his photograph because he thought only his friends would appreciate it but never in his wildest thinking expected such overwhelming hype to happen.

Believe it or not but Dey entered CSB without even having a single knowledge about anything related to Multimedia Arts; he didn’t know how to draw or use Photoshop and didn’t even know anything about photography. Initially, like most aspiring artists; he just wanted his own DSLR, and that eventually gave him the willingness to learn and become a good photographer. If you have the determination and passion to discover what you can do, then it is not impossible to attain what you can. Dey Vega shows us very well how perseverance leads to development when you have the passion to build up what you love doing.

Its quite remarkable how he controls his time given his busy schedule with school, projects and dance practice late at night. Dey says, “Time is important when you have many things to do.”, other passions are things that shouldn’t be a distraction to your education but it should also push you further to do well in other aspects.

Featured Fashion Blogger: RAIZA POQUIZ

Raiza Poquiz is definitely a good mix of beauty, talent and brains.

She’s a 109 Interior Design Student currently busy with her Majors at Philippine School of Interior Design yet she’s still capable of managing her time working on layouts for our school org, The Benildean Press Corps. School publications such as The Benildean, Karilyon and BLIP are a few of the publications of which Raiza contributes in.

We should not forget her killer sense of style in fashion; she has been seen in several magazines and websites such as CHALK that feature her stunning outfits.

She’s also known as MISSPOPQUIZ . Her blog is a versatile mix of posts related to fashion, arts, events and food. On blogging, she advises to stay true to yourself, be friendly and be interesting. Give people a reason to follow your blog and also follow back if you really like their blog. When it comes to layouts, always think about making it easy for the readers; avoid blinking objects and small fonts.

She likes to think of fashion as a way for her to present herself to everyone and to show how creative she can be other than her artworks.

Let’s not forget her lookbook acount, her looks more or less always receive a number of +-250 likes.  On having a lookbook account, Raiza advises:

“Use high-quality photos. (Need not be via DSLR, just a good quality point and shoot will do) Make sure the outfit is really seen. Avoid over-editing them. The more natural they look, the better. Lookbook automatically somewhat sharpens and desaturates photos. So before clicking POST, upload it first on LB and see if you like it, if not, upload it again.  ” Comment on others’ looks. Hype them. Leave friendly messages. This will help direct other users to your page.

MISSPOPQUIZ’s Tips on Fashion & Shopping:

1. Invest on your basic. (Jeans, LBD, white polo)
2. Great style doesn’t have to come expensive.
3. Your outfit shouldn’t be the only one that looks good. YOU should also look great so take care of your skin by moisturizing and use a little bit of make-up if necessary.

4.When shopping, I always suggest to try things on to see how it really looks on you. Walk, sit down, bend, to see if you’re comfy. If you’re hesitating to buy something, don’t buy it. Most often you’re probably just being an impulsive buyer.

With all these projects, opportunities and work load, its amazing how Raiza manages to keep herself and her priorities together.

“ It’s crazy! I don’t know how I even manage sometimes. There are so many other things I’d love to do and it’s difficult to find time for them considering my org, my plates and my business. I guess time management is always a solution. But be warned, always put your studies first. Blogging can be done at random times of the day. You just have to get used to being busy and prioritizing your work.”

3, Write whatever you want to write and don’t care about anything else. Your Blog is suppose to be you; just care about yourself and don’t mind what others might think.

4. Be Yourself. Your obligation to yourself is to be yourself; dress whatever you want. Don’t follow trends; if everyone else is wearing Doc Marten’s but you love wearing Chuck Taylors then go ahead and wear your Chucks. You should always make yourself shine.

Featured Blogger: David Guison

Its a fact that David Guison isn’t your typical average college kid for four reasons: First, he is ranked #13 on international site, Lookbook.nu out of over 19,947++ users in the Philippines.  Second, at the age of 19, he has been featured in over sixty blogs in the country(not counting magazine features). Third, his own personal blog, DG MNL, has over-flowing followers many bloggers can only afford to dream about and has around 315,250 hits. And oh, did we mention he is the one and only male brand ambassador of the international clothing line, FOREVER 21? Yes he is, along with other world-famous bloggers such as Tricia Gosingtian & Patricia Prieto. His Twitter Account sky rockets to a number of 3,341 followers. That’s quite a feat of miles for a boy his age.

The 108, ABMMA Student started blogging about a year ago his parents got him a camera that inspired him to take photographs, he was pleased enough with his works that it fueled him enough to share it to the world.  Lookbook was introduced to him by his friend and it is through it that he got noticed as his popularity soared to the point where Forever21 called him up and wanted him to be one of their ambassadors! That’s truly spectacular. Just like any of us, he has tried dancing & even modeling which didn’t work out and he can’t sing as well. Despite the failed attempt, David does prove to us that there is always other brighter opportunities out there when we keep pushing.

In spite the fame, David Guison remains down to earth, warm and welcoming that we found it very delightful when we sat down and had the interview with him. Despite his hectic schedule between school and work(he also works as a Photographer for the Lifestyle Section of Inquirer Newspaper and STATUS Magazine), he still managed to have a little chat with us as he talked about his favorite, The Crispy Chicken Fillet from McDonalds. This interview video is a must see! David Guison is definitely one person you should meet.

Quick Fact: David was the first person who got the SDA Talent Tag Line(“…and you are watching The SDA Talent, Real Art by Real Artists) at the end of every video correct and perfect with all the swag on the first take! Unfortunately, file crashed. :| we apologize guys.. Anyway, this is also the first time we are including behind the scene footage and bloopers of our interviews! It is such an honor to have him featured.

Fashion Feature: JENICA MENDOZA

Untitled03

When you’d see her walking down the hallways of SDA, you’d think she’s from Fashion Design, but she’s actually from MMA! With that killer sense of style, Jenica Mendoza has every right to be an icon for fashion. There’s always something about what she’s wearing and how she carries herself that can make heads turn and stare.

Untitled02

Her casual style is characterized by the classy and subtle neutral shades combined often with printed tees and loads of analogous accessories. The messy hairstyle, combined with her signature dark eyeliner also reflects her style-consciousness. She always carries her cryptic and relaxed look perked up with tights, cropped pants and signature killer heels.

Untitled

Why we think she’s awesome:She’s in MMA, enough said but she has the taste of a downtown New yorker where the rebels and aspiring artists dwell. Her personality shows in her art works and she is her own person and could care less about what other people think. She also experiments in creating music good for ringtones and special effects. She also has a very pleasing personality, how could you hate this girl who’s so realistic and down to earth?

acs

A mixture of neutrals and different textures shows just how well she can mix very different things and make it work. Her eccentric tastes cannot be quenched at one place only, she gets her rare finds on online stores and thrift stores as well.
